Immigration Canada

No, a work permit will not lead to residency. It is only for temporary employment and is not designed or intended to guarantee a long-stay in Canada. These are granted for a short period of time and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. However, if you are a live-in caregiver in Canada, you are allowed to apply for permanent residency after two years of full-time employment in Canada. Ask our immigration lawyer about the Live-in Caregiver Program.
How long does it take to process a work permit application?

Processing times, after the position has been confirmed by the Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC), is 2-4 weeks for a work permit. However, if medicals are required the time may be increased to 8-10 weeks. If you are in the IT field or a tool/die/machinist willing to live in Ontario, your application can be expedited, ask our immigration lawyer for more information about this."Immigration Canada"
